Obesity Awareness Charity Walk & Half Marathon to Champion Healthier Communities

Nairobi, Kenya | 28 July 2026
Nutrition Therapy by Lucy has announced plans to host the Obesity Awareness Charity Walk & Half Marathon on Sunday, 1 November 2026, at Northlands City, subject to the necessary approvals. The public health initiative aims to raise awareness about obesity prevention, encourage active lifestyles, and promote evidence-based nutrition as a cornerstone of disease prevention.
The event, scheduled to run from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon, will bring together individuals, families, healthcare professionals, fitness enthusiasts, corporate organizations, and community partners in a united effort to address one of Kenya’s fastest-growing public health challenges.
Obesity and overweight continue to contribute significantly to the increasing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, and certain cancers. Through this initiative, Nutrition Therapy by Lucy seeks to inspire positive lifestyle changes by encouraging regular physical activity, healthy eating habits, and preventive healthcare.
Speaking ahead of the event, Lucy Chege, Founder of Nutrition Therapy by Lucy, emphasized the importance of collective action in addressing obesity.
“Obesity is not simply a personal health issue—it is a national public health concern that affects families, workplaces, and the healthcare system. Through this charity walk and half marathon, we want to empower Kenyans with practical knowledge, inspire healthier choices, and demonstrate that small, consistent lifestyle changes can lead to better health outcomes for individuals and communities.”
The event will feature a comprehensive wellness programme designed to accommodate participants of varying fitness levels, including:
- A 21-kilometre Obesity Awareness Half Marathon open to members of the public.
- An Obesity Awareness Walk for participants seeking a less strenuous activity.
- Health and wellness education sessions focusing on nutrition, weight management, and disease prevention.
- Expert talks by healthcare professionals on obesity prevention and healthy living.
- Interactive fitness sessions featuring Zumba, Katabox, and Tabata workouts.
- Professional public address and event coordination to facilitate participant engagement and educational activities.
Participants will wear officially branded event T-shirts, and organizers have committed to ensuring the event is conducted professionally, safely, and in an environmentally responsible manner. Comprehensive safety measures, crowd management protocols, sanitation standards, and compliance with all applicable venue and government regulations will be observed.
Nutrition Therapy by Lucy believes that Northlands City’s modern infrastructure and commitment to community development provide an ideal setting for an initiative dedicated to improving public health and promoting lifelong wellness.
The Obesity Awareness Charity Walk & Half Marathon is expected to serve as a platform for raising awareness, encouraging healthy behavioural change, strengthening community partnerships, and reinforcing the importance of preventive healthcare in reducing the growing burden of obesity in Kenya.
Members of the public, corporate organizations, healthcare institutions, wellness advocates, and development partners will be invited to participate and support this important community initiative.
